The perfect christmas to me would be one where I don't need to do anything and the family just came to our house and brought the food for a change instead of going to my families house and then my husbands families house. More about Xmas a Cracker

    Hi there,

Anouther thing I believe is a big problem as is hindering my husband with finding a job is young people make stupid mistakes and do stupid things. My husband is now 21 and in his 3 and final year in a business degree but he can't get a job anywhere due to a stupid drunken act of petty theft when he was 17 along with a couple of DIC's which he now regrets every day of his life. The problem is when drunk he stole a top from the warehouse and got caught, how many teenages do you know have stolen through peer preasure or under the influence? or maybe you yourself even did it once and never again! My husband then got a DIC within year after that happening. Now minor convictions will only be sealed over 7 years after your last offence, which might I add is more then enouth for something you did when your so young. Everytime my husband applies for a job ANYWHERE they take one look the the application form, see the word theft and turn him down and its been this was for the last 3 years. My husband is now starting to feel like the degree he has put so much effort into is just a big waste of time, is that right? is it fair? NO! On top of this he wasn't even enformed until 2 years after his theft conviction he could have got deferral. I think if youth employment is such an issue in the goverments eyes maybe they should take a look at themselves and see how much they might be restricting youth from getting employment. I feel that a crime thats this minor should be written off if 4 years from there last conviction if there last conviction was commited before the age of ethier 18 or 19 as, as we all know were only human and we DO make mistakes particularly when where young. Now you may be think thats fine and true but what about myself well I'm 19 and currently a fulltime mum and house wife of my 21 month old son looking for a job to re-enter the work place. I have experience but with the way the job market currently is I just don't have enouth nor am considered old enouth to even stand a chance! I have been applying for about 4 jobs a month since my son turned 1 and in that time i've only had 2 phone interviews. I'm even willing to work for the minimun rate, anything is better then struggling from one week to the next solely on the student allowence!

This is my point of view and one not all of you may agree with but its a point of veiw from an un-employed youth. We live this reality everyday and not by choice but because theres just no other way, I honestly hope the NZ goverment make changes to insure youth particularly those who have made mistakes get a chance! • Hand held cellphone use in cars now illegal

I agree is argueing with your partner, Lissening to music thats loude your car shakes or a baby crying in its carseat not just as much of a distraction as a cell phone. I hate driving and using a cell phone it just doesn't work for me but my husband on the other hand seems to drive better while using one. Then you have idiots who know what there doing is straight dangerous like putting on make up but don't give a dam. I don't if attacking cell phone use well driving is actually going to make a dam difference when theres so many other things in a car that are just as distracting.

Don't blame the machine blame the user! More about Hand held cellphone use in cars now illegal
