Nigiri Salmon

I have a friend who lived in japan, and I told her I love to eat sushi and always fail when i try to make the rice. She gave me a lil hint that makes my sushi rice good and tasty; to my friend thank you for the tips and the sushi kit package (you can also get hondasi and other stuff from most asian markets) and now that I know what I am looking for it's easy to get. 


The ingredients

  • 1 pack sushi grade salmon fillet (very fresh)
  • 1.5 cups short grain rice
  • 4 tbs rice vinegar
  • 2 tbs sugar( only if you don't have mirin)
  • 1/2 tsp kombu dashi
  • 2 cups water

For the condiments:

  • pickle gari (ginger)
  • soyu
  • wasabi

The method

  • In a microwave or rice cooker cook the rice and water for 20 min on high heat (rice cooking setting).
  • Slice the fish and set aside.
  • Mixe the rice vinegar,sugar,hondasi and pour on top of the cooked rice, fan the steam out.
  • Make a rice ball as big as your tumb
  • Smear a lil wasabi on top of the rice
  • And top with the salmon fillet

Ready to serve!

    • We make our own sushi at work every now and again. It's social and soo tasty. Takes bloody ages though, on account of being utterly crap at driving the rolling mat thingy...
