Classic Bloody Mary

Ah the universal hangover cure - the healthiest way to implement 'hair-of-the-dog' and get some life affirming nutrients in the process. But bloody mary isn't just good for after, she's good for the night before too...

The ingredients

The drink:

-90 ml tomato juice
-45 ml vodka (it's worth using the best you can get)
-3 drops Worcestershire sauce
-3 drops Tobasco sauce (add more for that extra kick)
-Pitch of salt
-Pinch of black pepper
-Few drops fresh lemon juice
-Few drops fresh lime juice
-Ice

Garnish:

-Coarse salt (sea salt flakes are recommended)
-Celery stick
-Wedge of lime (or lemon)

The method

Whenever I think of Bloody Marys I always picture rich middle-aged women drinking it at a country club Sunday brunchen.

This is just a simple Bloody Mary recipe without any twists of my own. I just thought I'd share with those who haven't had the opportunity mix one up themselves.

   1.      In a shaker filled with a couple cubes of ice, combine all ingredients and shake well.
   2.      Slice a wedge of lime (or lemon) and run it along the rim of your serving glass to wet it.
   3.      Dip the rim of the glass in a plate of coarse salt, making sure the wetted part of the rim is completely covered.
   4.      Drain mixture without ice into glass, garnish with celery and wedge of lime.
   5.      Serve immediately~

You don't have to be a rich middle-aged women belonging to a country club to enjoy this drink. Heck, I drink it on my livingroom couch watching tv on a sunday afternoon...

The origin of the Bloody Mary is not so well defined. One story describes Fernand Petiot inventing the drink in 1921 while working at Harry's Bar in Paris, France, a frequent hangout for Ernest Hemingway and other American expatriates. Whatever the origins...always refreshing and never to be underestimated!!

  • An easier way to mix a Bloody Mary Hangover Reliever is:

90 ml [Keri] Spicy Tomato Juice
    45 ml vodka
    Ice

When you've got a hangover, you really don;t want to be messing around with too many ingredients.
