TED: Michael Pritchard Turns Filthy Water Drinkable

I'm still surprised the TED Global conference doesn't get more coverage here in NZ. There have been some amazing demonstrations of new technology (such as the one above) and awesome speakers that cover a whole variety of topics. As an educator I know I find it more interesting than most, but it still has incredible content that I think almost anyone should know about.

First things first, totally genius idea, I heard that the US Army have been using this technology for a couple of years in their freeze dried meal rations, apparently it is even safe for the soldiers to use their own urine if they get real desperate. Secondly, I'd just like to mention that if you start saving millions of people, where is all the extra food going to be coming from? Most of the world already has a problem with over population or soon will. Can't take away the fact that this is a brilliant idea, that is going to save a lot of lives.
