The beloved and hardly rivalled PS3 has now become the must have all-rounder. For about half a year now, Playstation 3 owners have been able to enjoy the benefit of TVNZ on Demand via the console's Menu. Oh but so much more, the PS3 also boasts an online movie hireage service, called MUBI and a free music vid service known as Vidzone.  All of which have changed the face of gaming consoles forever. Now, the gameplan has changed again with Play TV. A USB add on to the console where you can Watch, Record, Pause and so on and so forth, Digital TV, to the likes of Freeview and the main networks, all in eye candylicious HD. With twin tuners, you can watch... read full article

I dont know what to say so here's a joke! Blonde paint job A blonde, wanting to earn some money, decided to hire herself out as a handyman-type and started canvassing a wealthy neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any jobs for her to do. "Well, you can paint my porch. How much will you charge?" The blonde said, "How about 50 dollars?" The man agreed and told her that the paint and ladders that she might need were in the garage. The man's wife, inside the house, heard the conversation and said to her husband, "Does she realize that the porch goes all the way around the house?" The man replied, "She should. She was standing on the porch." A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money. "You're finished already?" he asked. "Yes," the blonde answered, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats. "Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $50. "And by the way," the blonde added, "that's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

Pro Tip. If your broadband is with Orcon, TVNZ on demand is unmetered, meaning it won't use up your data cap. Also it's spelled aerial XD

In deciding which gaming console to upgrade to from our basic Playstation 2 (yes we are a bit behind the times, lol) i've been compiling a list of pros and cons of the various models available, admittedly PS3 wasn't doing so well, X-box 360 with its Kinnect was moving up the ranks but now i'm wondering whether or not PS3 might be the way to go....will sit back a bit longer (let the money accumulate a bit more) and watch to see what they come up with next.

Looks like an awesome gadget.. Thinking of getting one soon :)

I had no idea the PS3 could pull of those achievements! The ability of being able to record via PSP etc if out and about is very cool. We currently have Wii and Mysky - which achieves similar ends, but not bluray, so a PS3 is always tempting

Hmmm a good idea for the BF for Christmas????? Or maybe not if you wanna spend time with him ha ha.

Clever little gadget but maybe I'm being a bit thick. Why do you need a UHF aerial if it is using broadband? Does it pull an HD signal in via UHF aerial but can ALSO use broadband? Or is it solely dedicated broadband in which case, why the need for a UHF aerial.

I am frequently on public transport with a bunch of freaks, nothing this wouldnt solve, cheaper than buying my own car to avoid the freaks!

Hmmm... a bit confused by the UHF aerial bit as well although it doesn't really matter here as we don't get UHF and our broadband service at the moment is XT Mobile data. We're also looking at getting a Xbox/PS3 as the core of a home entertainment system and PS3 is streets ahead (already have all the move games we need with Wii) so PS3 + PlayTV would probably justify Farmside satellite broadband with the mega off-peak cap...

Play TV

It's added functionality, sure. It's a bit of a late entrant though (to the NZ market) and it might be not worth it unless you're a Sony junky. To all looking at getting this I'd encourage you to look into the apparent Sony - Mediaworks tension. Seems to be some limitations with TV3, C4, and Prime. Also, checkout what other content each other providers like MySky, Tivo, etc.
