Discussing :: Peter Jackson Responds to Union Attack on The Hobbit

Fuck the Australian 'MEAA' and the minority bunch of New Zealand actors that align with them, the response from Peter Jackson follows;   Statement regarding The Hobbit and claims by the Australian Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA): The Australian Labour Union, the MEAA is using our production The Hobbit in an attempt to widen it’s membership, and power within the New Zealand film industry. As a New Zealand filmmaker, who has nothing to hide or be ashamed about, I’m not going to see this threatening behaviour continue without some form of sensible discussion about the “facts” and “truth” behind... read full article

Peter Jackson Responds to Union Attack on The Hobbit

This is the example I want to use, to portray the dillemma unions can cause in union members & their families lives. I think unions have their place, but we need to remember the past. Look what happened with the wharfies strike way back in the 50's, the employers wouldn't budge on pay talks and the unions & members, would either; so who lost? The worker (certainly wasn't the union), because the employer's bought in non union members to do the work and I feel, we could see the same happen again. It's better to have an income than to have none at all, especially in these uncertain times. The worker just needs to negoiate with the employer a suitable arrangement in writing ... IN WRITING is important as its the same as a contract and legally binding. It also shows the employer that you have some nouse & won't be trodden on, but at the same time aren't under the same vigourous rules as the union contracts

If this goes belly-up, one hopes that those selfish Kiwis, that small minority, that aided and abetted in this Aussie MEAA scam, up sticks and bugger off to Aussie...one certainly hoped that they will have the self-respect (although probably not) to NOT turn up for the benefit when all the movie work dries up...

The Union in Australia are strong and powerful compared to the sad excuse of the ones we have that Labour dismantled back in 89. The Small Actors over here really have no choice to go along with it, other wise they too will face the wrath of the Union it its commie bully boys. Remember the guy that did the Steinlager add were you need to go into the darkness, he was 'Non union labour and the Hollywood Union made remarks in the news over here why he was employed to do the job..pretty bad ones as well. The real reason is they want the movie and money that comes with it, they are rubbish at making films apart from the same old comedy over and over again. Im glad the government has stepped into this one, there is much to much on the line for us to hand it over to the descendants of convicts.
