Cuba is a land with a rich history of political struggle. Since turning communist 50 years ago the island nation has more or less gone downhill, mostly due to a trade embargo placed by the United States. No Americans or American products allowed. Because of this the country has evolved rather unevenly in this time of political isolation. Growing investment in the resort town of Varadero has brought relative wealth to the region yet the nearby city of Cardenas has felt none of it. I love those classic cars and how Cuba has retained the old school coolness about it after so long (whether by choice or not). I would very much love to go there one day.

Between the cars and the cigars, Cuba is one uber-cool destination. Hopefully the new politcial regime doesn't spoil the atmosphere in the name of 'modernisation'.

A mate went to Cuba for his honeymoon and could not stop raving about the place. He is a full-on confirmed tourism ambassador and all that he has been spouting on about is repeated in this article. Maybe I'll believe him now. Definitely needs to be on the must see destination list. He got there via the US, then Mexico. Anyone know what the best way to get to Cuba is, and what kind of overall holiday cost are you in for? Do you rekon a guided holiday is advisable?
