Discussing :: Food Market

We go to the markets almost every weekend to buy fruit and vege's. The strawberry farm over the summer (who sell wonderful vege's as well), Auckland Farmers market on Britomart on the weekends was a good food market, not sure if they are still going though.

Night markets are cool. I went just last night and it's a great way to explore different cultures of food and support locals.

If you're in South Auckland you're spoiled for choice. Pukekohe and Pokeno are great and for that touch of class try Clevedon.

Matakana markets are a great place to go for fresh and organic produce!!

Nelson: Saturday Market in town or PYO at 185 Main Rd in Hope, they have a shop so you don't have to pick your own.

Chaffers Market in Wellington is awesome - great inside food market for cheeses, meats and treats and then brilliant fruit and vege and food stalls outside in the Te Papa carpark.

Farmers markets are the best. The passion the stall holders have & the eye-catching packaging draws me like a magnet. I always support the small people, they care for us in huge ways, & it's only fair we encourage them to embarrass the huge conglomerates who are basically only interested in the GST number!

On a regular basis, it would have to be the regular farmers markets that you can find in most small towns at least once a week; less regularly, head for the the various wine and food festivals around the country...there are some very good ones that are not as hard to get into as Martinborough or Marlbourough...

I love farmers markets ... its not cheap but you get some great stuff!!! and you get to try it 1st :)

Weekend markets for food are a regular for me. I have a choice of 3 closest to me that I can walk to and get some healthy exercise at the same time. Prices are usually cheaper than supermarkets though quality can be variable depending on when you go. There are also great cooking food stalls other than the fruit, veges, meat and fish.
