We all know Michael Phelps is no stranger to a swimming pool and a bong but also a knife & fork. To fuel his gold medal achievements he used to eat a Olympic sized 12,000 calories a day. RESPECT! considering the recommended daily intake is between 2,000 - 2500 calories per day. Here it is.... by starting off his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes. At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks. For dinner, a pound of pasta and an entire pizza. He washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks. I hope he's cut back now that he's retired as he'll resemble me in no time!! hehehehehe

Wow that's outstanding! What a machine! Maybe there is some truth that Phelps is from another world - Men in Black or maybe Xmen mutant material I'm thinking.
It would be interesting what the "Man from Atlantis" could pack away back in the day :o


I went to the mighty All Blacks test in the weekend so I thought I'd compare Phelps diet as just like him I was going for Gold and eating & drinking for New Zealand on Saturday. So I searched the internet (which is always right) to find out the calories consumed on Saturday (results may vary depending on what website I used and also because well I got drunk) Breakfast (a huge plate of Bacon and Eggs to put a lining on my wash board stomach). Bacon (6 strips), 276 2 eggs, 143 Hash Browns, 414 Toast, 400 Demon Energy, 202 Lunch 2 Steak and cheese pies, 840 Demon Energy, 202 Booze (preloading and during the game) Steinlarger, of course (15 x 142) = 2130 Dinner (McD's outside Stadium) 2 Big Mac’s, 2 x 490 = 980 Choc Shake, 390 No fries , too fattening Munchies (for train ride home) 1 x Big Mac, 490 Choc Shake, 390 So that came to a grand total of only 6857!!!!! So given the margin of error, I'm Eric the Eel compared to Phelps. Plus I was crook all day on Sunday, must have picked up the manflu from the stormy weather.

Woah... and I bet he's still hungry after all that! :D Just hope if he's not going to gain weight as he gets older and halts the physical exercise.


I find it interesting that Phelps only has three meals - I would have guessed that he had six or more meals throughout the day. this does go to show the commitment that elite athletes have - Some people wouldn't mind eating until they were bursting but i am sure that Phelps would feel like a break from his routine quite often, It obviously is not only the training that requires commitment, but also the food prep, the food eating, the opportunity lost on hanging with friends etc. the sleep requirements - (Phelps also sleeps in a room within his room that simulates sleeping at altitude) The dude is obviously seriously committed. Which leads me to an interesting thought that i saw the other day - this is fresh from some young kid on MTV - "There are two types of pain in the world - the pain of discipline and the pain of regret. The pain of discipline can be nagging and constant but the pain of regret will eat at your soul and eventually destroy you" Phelps is obviously a master of discipline - and apart from sucking on a bong at the wrong time - would have few regrets! Wow, that is an enormous amount of food. I know he burns it all off, but I wonder if he feels like he was forcing himself to eat at times? I'm pleased I'm not footing his grocery bill !

Man his breakfast alone would fill me up for the day. Would love to eat that much but sitting on the couch and pushing the remote buttons doesn't burn that many calories, :(. The life of a professional spectator is TOUGH road ( if only I wasn't so unco-ordinated and lazy LMFAO!


I wonder if the super athletes eat when they get hungry or do they eat before they get hungry ? Food tastes so much better when you crave it....viva la salivation !!!!!!


no one he had energy to burn. Phelps is a Fish! By the way Gazza, top work! Maybe you should include French Fries in your diet to get the calorie count higher! force them down!
