Discussing :: Don't be a chicken - Eat raw eggs

#21

I make a great cheesecake with raw eggs, but I certainly wouldn't just eat a whole one raw. How did Prarie Oysters come up in this thread lol, they're something else completely!

I can't believe that there are those who don't eat or hate raw eggs... aside of course for those with allergy from them. Most of us eat chicken, so their egss are nutritionally good, specially when taken raw... try to mix it with a cola, and you will find it deliciously great!

What l’ve read raw egg whites are certainly good for you. Be brave and eat up, they aren't that fowl. If you find them hard to swallow cooked egg whites are high in protein, have next to zero fat and no carbohydrates so they are good for athletes.

#24

I would rather eat them cooked. I think if it tastes yuck, whats the point, even it is good for you.

On One Hand: Raw Eggs Provide Essential Nutrients
Raw eggs contain a number of important nutrients including protein, riboflavin, biotin, choline, vitamins A, D and E, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc and iodine. The brain, hormones, nerves and glands all benefit from the consumption of raw eggs.

On the Other: Dangers of Salmonella
Salmonella causes problems such as pain, fever, chills, vomiting, diarrhea and even death in the elderly or people with poor immune systems. According to Ban Mishu et al. in "Outbreaks of Salmonella enteritidis Infections in the United States, 1985- 1991," 87 percent of salmonella cases in the early-1990s were due to raw eggs and raw egg products.

Bottom Line
In 2002, research by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that only .003 percent of eggs are contaminated with salmonella each year, so the risk of infection is low, though the chance rises if a person constantly consumes raw eggs. A safe alternative is Egg Beaters, which have been rid of bacteria but still have all of the health benefits. If you eat raw eggs, inspect the product, and never eat an egg with a cracked shell or a rotten smell.

I love eggs, whether they are poached, scrambled, boiled, or however as long as they are cooked. I couldn't eat them raw.

Being strong of mind you can tackle anything, even raw eggs, give it a go

#27

It sounds ok but i've never tried it. Have to down it in one I think. No chewing. Think of Rocky.

#28

Can't bring myself to do it, but love them lightly poached
