Pissing Into The Wind - The great on-field urination debate

So there is a bit of a bruha going on over Russell Packer's on field caught short. I'd like to know peoples thoughts on it. Personally I don't have an issue. I would imagination that nerves at that level of competition and cold weather will occaisonally catch a player out. And what are they meant to do? Leave the pitch and the quite probably game? Are there fines for running off without a subsitution being called? Do we need to have sideline port-a-loo's available. I reckon he was being as discreet as he could be ( as was Jerry Collins years earlier). i get the arguement about the potential for a health issue but is it any less safe than blood or sweat? i don't see a problem with it either, what else are they s'posed do? the only option is to bring on portaloos but it's probably a bad look somehow for promoters or something. people would be far more annoyed if guys were constantly running off the field or got benched for a burst bladder from a big hit. As for the health issue argument which is weak, I'd rather get piss on my boot in a field than vomit on it from a walk through town on a sunday morning.

The game must go on. This will come to pass but will be part of history.

well not being a guy i see a lot wrong with this, surely he could have made sure he went before the game and did not get caught out, is it ok for everyone to pee wherever they want now then, and also what a bad example to set, nope sorry cannot agree with the above posts at all.,next you will be saying he can have a crap on field as well, not on FELLAS

It really wasn't appropriate - he should have his face rubbed in it (probably would have anyway lol). We know who the ferals are... Packer can now be added to the list.

A quick exit to the sidline to refill the water bottles I reckon :)

I think that part of this issue is the amount of camera coverage that is pointed at a game. I would wager that this type of thing happened a lot in professional or semi-pro sport back in the day with few people any the wiser. Now that we can see the game from almost any angle we have this type thing popping up. I think a little discretion from the media wouldn't go astray.

The players should go before or after the match or at half time not during the game.

Think its kind of gross pissing on the field. He wouldn't like it if someone else did it and then he got tackled and landed in a pile of piss. Theres plenty of time before and after the game or at half time for a good slash

Absolutely gross! even as a young junior rugby player, we never did that
