Assassin's Creed II

Shane Coleman

Being a qualified Journo, Shane sold his soul to NZ’s Gaming Industry many, many years ago. For almost a decade he's written for varying publications and web sites mostly on Video Gaming and Technology.
He's also put together scripts for TV Commercials, Voice Over’s and such the like and have also orchestrated a Television Gaming Show which ran early to mid 2007.

The present meets the past once again and SciFi shakes hands with pivotal parts of human history.

The fastest selling new kid on the block title, Assassin’s Creed spawned a sequel recently, which we all knew, was inevitable.

Retaining the same award winning formula of game play and the feature of the entire saga, where past lives, ancestry genetics are intricately locked into ones DNA, which is unlocked via extraordinary technology.

AC II introduces a new era, focussing on the time of the Renaissance period, (1400 – 1600’s), a time of art, music and turmoil in Italy.

You play as Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble with an unpronounceable name, which sets you up for playing the part of a newbie Assassin.

Like a familiar walk to the shops, you will learn your abilities all over again.

Just like the first, every town is filled with opportunities and every game character, Villager, Enemy or Friend will distract, divert or aide you on your Missions.

The cityscape is massive and nowhere is restricted. It’s a perfectly recreated Middle Ages, Italy for your disposal, from Venice to Florence and everywhere inbetween.

Based on a family story filled with betrayal and vengeance, corruption and murder amongst a politically charged, economically advantaged sect of dominating family networks.

To get around this huge game, new elements have been added, such as flying and swimming, but more often than not, you’ll be leaping from rooftop to steeple, free running within the shadows, blending in with the crowds.

Similarly with titles of the same genre, you can play through how you wish to. Missions are not set in concrete and can be undertaken when and how you want to do them.

New weaponry has been added and I actually believe that the graphics have ramped up a bit.

But it’s not the endless eye candy that you play either of the Assassin’s Creeds for, it’s the story.

That of cinematic blockbustery theatre.

Sounds like a great game! I am having a hard time finding enough time to play all the great games available, I guess the solution is to become a video games reviewer.

Just finished this on the weekend felt it was a bit slow to start with but gets better and better as the game goes on. I think i will be having a look at the extra downloadable content soon.

not sure what people thought of the first "Assassins Creed" but in my opinion it was WAY too repetitive, all you did was sneak around people, ride a horse, jump/climb buildings, and occasionally kill someone... i think the developers missed out on adding other tasks that differed from what was in the game.
  • I'm playing through the 1st one at the moment and it's pretty good. Can't wait to play this one and hone my assassin skills!

This game has become even cooler than the first one, especially because of the better detailing and the enrapturing storyline set in Italy. So fun!

Many of the new skills you learn are also tied to new weapons and gadgets, provided by none other than Leonardo da Vinci. These run the gamut from flash bombs to a miniature pistol to a rudimentary and very cool flying machine. What's disappointing, though, is th at as interesting as some of these gadgets are, there is really no need to use them outside of one or two missions. In most cases it's easier to simply use your trusted assortment of blades

One of the most painful games to watch when someone who doesnt know how to play is having a go and theyre chasing someone along the roof tops.

    Looks awesome
Better than the first for sure.
Killing people is great fun when you can just go back to work on monday.
