This is a beauty. The mixtape is an unsung art that has permeated our lives since time immortal and I'm so happy someone has finally given some advice on how to actually do it. I'm now reeling with sweet nostalgia of all the mixtapes I have been blessed to have received over the years. In fact, I'm going to go and make me one right now. As a young impressionable travel writer, one of my first sojourns was to Rarotonga to be guided around by a curious local, otherwise known as "Mr Red Wine". After a morning's boozy lunch, we decided to forgo the travel itinerary and ended up singing raucously along with some locals who were busying themselves weaving costumes for the upcoming cultural festival. So much better than what we had planned. That evening at the Edgewater Resort we ended the day with more warbling and hollering to the cultural group performing for the evening punters. The next day was spent recovering with a guided tour through the bush with "Pa"; an amazing local kaumatua/healer who could identify and describe the medicinal uses of practically every plant we passed in the rainforest. Such an amazing journey; just drive slowly and watch out for the million dogs on the loose! More about Escape Showcase: Rarotonga Part 2

Oh dear. They say everyone has a doppelganger and I think we just found Bambi's. Either this poor thing has skipped one too many meals or on some seriously world-altering narcotics. In which case, I want some. More about Model Struggles Walking In High Heels

I found the funniest way to deal with oral sex on women was mentioned in the Kiwi film Separation City: a shot (or several) of Baileys apparently helps ease the, erm, 'tang'. Otherwise, the 'less is more' theory is really not applicable in this situation... More about Oral Sex Tips for Beginners

  • How to Write a Headline that Actually Gets Read

Last post: Erenakelly on 14.03.11 at 01:46 | Started by Rowan on 30.03.10

This is so true; the headline is the maker or breaker. Then, if you're lucky to get a punter to read your article, you're lucky to maintain their interest beyond the fifth paragraph or so. Writers need to be inventive, catchy, punchy and occasionally shocking to eloquently portray their message and this always starts with the headline. Sex under the sun, in the dappled light of a huge willow tree, by the pool on a balmy summer's evening. It's a must do. If you haven't had sex al fresco in the summertime, you're never going to. More about The top ten outdoor must do's for Summer

I had no idea Rudd's parents were British. That explains his dry wit that so complements Carrell's absolutely ridiculous delivery. More about Interview: Paul Rudd

I have heard in the wind the Paul Henry fiasco was all just a gimmick to give him more leverage when he crosses over to TV3 to a higher powered job. He'll be hot property now that the lines have been drawn amongst his flock. And yes, he is but one drop in the ocean of publically objectionable broadcasts, but then what a boring world we'd live in if we all minded our Ps and Qs eh? More about Inspiration and exasperation

  • Tribalism vs democracy

Aaaaargh!!! I don't know how after so many eons of civilisation we can continue to segregate and define ourselves by our ethnic heritage and to formulate laws accordingly. Is our luck-of-the-draw gene pool really the only worthy factor of birthright? What about other attributes - trustworthiness, intelligence, charisma? Where do us 'inbreds' stand in all of this? Do we draw a line through ourselves, nominate the spleen as 'Scottish', the lungs as 'Maori' and the feet as 'of other ethnic origin'? We are PEOPLE. PEOPLE. Hutia te rito o te harakeke, kei hea te komako e ko e. Whatataerangitia, tirohia ki uta, tirohia ki tai. A, uia mai ki ahau. He aha te mea nui o te ao? Maku e ki atu, he tangata, he tangata, he tangata... More about Tribalism vs democracy

Hmm. Tricky one. While seeing an armed officer would certainly be a stark reminder of civil authority, police are, after all, human beings prone to gargantuan mistakes at inopportune times. Remember Stephen Wallace? Remember the shambolic manhunt that was Aramoana? I also don't condone the use of police dogs in violent situations. The animal lover in me things it grossly unfair to send in an innocent to deal with our f'd up situations. I don't know. Why can't we just all get along? More about Arming the Police
