Music: Kora

Gemma Dickinson

Kora - Kora****
The highly anticipated debut album from the brothers Kora was always going to be a heavy hitter, and it doesn't disappoint. Kora begin the album the same way they have their mind-blowing live shows around NZ, with the haunting tones of  ‘Burning'. This time it has been turned on its head from the skank-heavy slow burner on the multi-platinum EP. This isn't the only older track to re-emerge with a newer and more refined vision. 'Crazy Things' and 'Flow' feel like they have benefited from years of being jammed out at live shows. The album also features soon to be classics ‘Skankenstein’, ‘Skoolyard’, and ‘Culture’, among other favourites ‘Down The Road’ and ‘On My Mind’ which have Fran on vocals with Laughton on back up. As a bonus the album cover is an awesome 11 Page Kung-fu animation of the band. Kora are defiantly bringing Whakatane's summer vibes to every bbq and camper van across the country.
