PS3 Slim Review

Having never quite grown out of those days of playing Street Fighter down at the local fish and Chip shop, I’ve developed into a bit of a gamer over the years. Coupled with my love of new technology, I occasionally find myself scoping out a gaming store or checking out the internet to ensure I appease my appetite for anything new and cool. A month ago I found something that practically had me salivating: at the annual Gamescom gaming convention Sony Computer Entertainment unveiled a sleek new version of the PlayStation®3! This new PS3 has gone on a diet and it is looking good.

The PS3 has not only slimmed down, it’s smartened up with more memory space, a whopping 120 GB to save my pictures, movies, music and games. Sony even knocked back the price to really make you sit up and take notice. For the new price you have a complete home entertainment system that allows you to surf the net, put all your pictures on a slide show to impress all, watch high definition blu- ray movies and play games. All we need now is for it to cook our dinner.

2 by you.It is obvious that Sony is moving its emphasis away from the PlayStation being just for gamers and repositioning it as a total entertainment unit. When you get bored with your content you can get new stuff by logging onto the PlayStation Network and access an ever expanding selection of over 15,000 pieces of games, trailers, movies and videos.

The new PS3 costs half of what the original PS3 cost when it first launched, is jammed full of entertainment options, looks sleek and sexy and  has a huge new line up of games.  Just add your own fish and chips and you can’t want for anything else.

Oh my its such a good system and at a fair price now. But you can really only get the full effect out of it if you have a large hd tv. I would recommend if your going to put down the cash for this machine make sure you've got the tv to match.

Seriously, the new PS3 is the bomb. When the phat PS3 came out, despite the complete package of home entertainment ranging from gaming, playing movies and mp3 and to surfing the net, I have only shot a glance at it for 2 reasons: i) the size of the console is huge as; and ii) it goes the same for the price. Considering the fact that one should also invest in a high-definition TV, I have turned down the temptation, really. But now, the table has turned. Not only were almost all the features retained from the 1st generation, the hard disk has expanded 50% more of the original; in fact some countries are in line to have a whooping 250Gb model as well. And best of all, in terms of price, Sony did allow the PS3 to be under a diet, which have surely left many consumers like myself to be hungry. However, the new PS3 is not perfect for several reasons: i) unlike the previous models, the backward-compatibility for PS2 is removed, which is a sucker-news really; ii) they have failed to implement infra-red, which prevents us from using universal remote control; and, lastly, iii) users are no longer able to install 3rd party softwares such as Linux, for which people including Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard will be resentful at Sony's decision; while most of us would not pay a penny's worth of attention (Yep, I haven't left Penny out from the context). Anyhoo, aside all the downsides, I hope this is a perfect excuse to have PS3 slim for this Christmas. And God bless the Japanese for their awesome technologies (and weird-as game shows and otakus); seriously, how would we live without them, really?
