Big Day Out is the biggest music festival in the Southern Hemisphere - Hands down, no question. It attracts the best names in music and offers an atmosphere so addictive, that once you have gone returning the next year is inevitable. The best thing about Big Day Out is that year after year the lineup keeps getting better and the show keeps getting bigger. This year on the Big Day Out menu we have iconic BDO veterans, talented up-and-comers and a large serving of global superstars. We have an exciting and incredible lineup that should install feelings of euphoria into audiophiles of every genre.

Heading up the lineup is epic prog-rockers, Tool, who are down under for the first time in years. Their live show has been described as ‘unlike any other visual experience you have ever had' and are called by many, ‘the best live band in the world.' Also on the main stage are German extremists, Rammstein and the father of punk himself, Iggy Pop.

The one-woman-powerhouse, MIA, will share her genre-bending and insanely catchy tunes with Big Day Out crowds. Hot off the release of her newest and uniquely titled album, /\/\/\Y/\, the Sri-Lankan will surely put on a show to remember.

LCD Soundystem announced their retirement from music this year. But because of the runaway success of their latest record, This Is Happening, they decided to grace our shores for one last show. Be there: Because this literally is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Black Keys, Ratatat and Die Antwoord will all make an appearance at 2011's Big Day Out. And will surely please fans of blues-rock, hypnotic electronic and South African experimental hip-hop, (in respective order).

And Crystal Castles will be playing. Yes, the one and only Crystal Castles. Crystal Castles are abrasive and obnoxious; fast and loud; pretentious yet authentic; and very, very good. Unpredictable and anarchic Crystal Castles' live show is simply a visual representation of their sound - the most frenetic live show on Earth. Shield your ears and lock up your daughters, for Crystal Castles is sure to cause a riot.

There truly is something for everyone!

Also remember that this is the very first announcement, and many other bands are likely to play at 2010's Big Day Out.
Who would you like to see there? Seriously, if you could see any band play Big Day Out who would it be?

    Bring back the Prodigy!

Every year they bounce around huge names for the headline act.....and it never comes true! Soundgarden would have been a perfect fit. Still! Tool is a pretty good alternative. Rammstein will be insane and would love to see the Deftones again.

AAAHHH the BDO. Making your way through dozens of trash-strewn gaps through sweaty, writhing bodies. Smashing your head into someone else's who has been momentarily, likewise, completely caught up in a glorious rock moment. Singing at the top of your out-of-tune lungs. Spewing all over yourself whether out of pure wastedness or cruel heat exhaustion. Yep. Good times alright.

Looking Forward to M.I.A, but the line up was a bit of a let down really!

Would love to have gone to BDO when Slipknot were performing or System of a Down! Havn't made it to BDO yet but will one day. Have heard so many great stories from people who have been to it and the stories of success and failure of smuggling drink in!

sounds like its gonna be a mean day!!!!
  • Liz says
So many repeats! I'm not complaining, I'll be happy to see lots of them again but its weird that its becoming a regular thing for some bands.
  • Roly says
Certainly is a Big Day Out. Tool, Rammstein, Deftones, Wolfmother... Yeaah!
