Reiki for Men’s Health with Benton Day

Benton Day is a healer at the Mind Body Institute in Grey Lynn. He is a Reiki 2 practitioner. Trained under the high standards of the Australian Reiki Association, Ben brings a fresh, practical approach, balance and strength to his healing. Ben is very focused on bringing Reiki from the kooky into the mainstream and especially sharing its many benefits with NZ men.

What led you to become a Reiki practitioner?

Initially I learnt Reiki 1 to gain a better understanding of my partner’s business.  However I found that I really enjoyed Reiki and particularly liked its simple and natural application.

What exactly is Reiki?

Reiki is an incredibly simple practice. It is a method of hands on healing which originated in Japan at the turn of the 20th century.  It is a system of healing that transforms and heals the body and mind.

Disease culminates from disharmony – wellness is a state of wholeness.  Wholeness is achieved by addressing our whole life – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual; and it is not enough to be fanatical about some areas of our life, and to ignore others. 

What Reiki benefits are there specifically for men?

Reiki healing can empower men. As men age the gradual lowering of testosterone levels occur and men can go through lows and depressions similar to women. Lowered hormone levels, lack of connected intimacy and a holding pattern of a stressful work environment can reduce a man’s energy drive, fertility, along with less interest in his relationships and career.

We can become tired, irritable, and anxious, sweat more, have more body aches and pains and feel that life is mundane, leaving a feeling of being helpless & hopeless.
Reiki can assist with transformation, positive changes in temperament, increased flow of energy and a calmness in your nature, to enable you to connect with others on a much deeper level without feelings of anxiety or stress.

People can get so stressed out from every day life, overworking and not enough rest.  I offer a natural way to re-energise the body and mind. The transfer of vital life force energy.

So, what happens in a Reiki session?

Well, for starters, you get to keep your clothes on! Our delivery & approach is unique, non invasive, and the results you will receive are rapid & profound.
A Reiki treatment is normally carried out with the client either lying down or sitting, in a comfortable and peaceful environment. Reiki is a hands-on therapy; it is safe, non-intrusive and non-manipulative.

During a full Reiki treatment, the practitioner directs healing energy to several areas of the head, body, legs and feet. While focus is given to the body's major organs and Chakras, every cell of the body will benefit. In addition to the formal hand positions, Reiki can be applied to any part of the body which has been injured. Length of treatment depends upon the root cause of the problem and the amount of energy needed to revitalize and bring into balance the ailing area of the body. Reiki may be felt as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, and other sensations. It is deeply relaxing, eases stress and leaves one feeling calm and at peace.            

Do you think NZ Men look after themselves well enough?

In some aspects NZ men do look after themselves, however I feel that NZ men do need to focus more on their internal health.  

Reiki creates awareness of areas that may need attention including energy centre’s, deep breathing and increasing the ability to relax more.

If you could name one thing we need to do more of what would it be?

Connecting directly with people more often.

Witnessing the positive results that Reiki brings to people’s lives, I get a great sense of satisfaction from this.
