How many times have you gone on a diet to lose weight and wound up cheating within a few days? Do you remember what the reasons were for straying from your plan? People usually stray because they miss tasty treats and don't feel satisfied. Some of us expect to see immediate results, and when we don't, we say to heck with the diet, because it does not seem to be working anyway. You'll need to overcome this urge if you're going to lose those extra pounds. Fortunately, there are plenty ways to eat weight loss foods, feel satisfied, and even be able to have the occasional treat.
Eat Weight Loss Foods That Actually Taste Good
There are all kinds of ways to make weight loss foods seem like they aren't diet foods at all. For one thing, there are so many different choices of healthy foods now that you're sure to find a few things that you really, really like. They'll taste so good that they might even end up being your favorite treats.
Nuts and seeds are extremely healthy and diet-friendly, as long as you get the unsalted varieties, and they're loaded with protein and other nutrients. Not only are they delicious treats and an excellent choice if you're craving something crunchy to munch on, they're much healthier than a bag of potato chips.
Fruit is always a good option and something that should be part of every healthy diet. If you find yourself craving something sweet, reach for an orange or an apple instead of ice cream. They'll satisfy your sweet tooth without the fat, carbohydrates, and calories of a chocolate bar or something similar. And if you really want to make it an extra-sweet treat, buy some diet-friendly syrups for dipping.
Vegetables can also be used as a tasty treat. You're probably wondering how you can satisfy your cravings for junk food by eating vegetables. Well, there are a number of ways. You can use tomatoes, peppers, and onions to make delicious, healthy salsa, which you can dip other vegetables in. Or, you can use low fat cream cheese combined with low fat salad dressing to make a tasty dip for vegetables and whole grain crackers.
Don't want to give up eating fried chicken? Try baking it instead. You can make chicken in the oven that's just as good as your favorite fried version, but without the calories or fat, making it extremely diet friendly and delicious too. Just coat a chicken breast with bread crumbs and spices and bake it in the oven, just as you would a regular piece of chicken. You'll get a crispy skin with loads of flavor, which will help satisfy your craving for junk food without straying from your diet. You can also do the same thing with lean red meat if you're a fan of chicken fried steak.
How to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthy Foods
Sadly, more and more kids are becoming overweight and even obese. This may have a lot to do with the fact that they're glued to the television and computers rather than going outside and being active. But diet plays a role as well. Some buy unhealthy foods when they're at school, while some don't get everything they need at home.
If your kids are gaining weight, you need to start making some changes and teach them how to eat healthy foods. Now, there are many children who refuse to eat anything that's good for them, so sometimes you have to be a little bit sneaky. For example, most kids love spaghetti. Make your sauce from fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers, and other fresh ingredients, and don't let the kids know they're eating something healthy. Or try getting them to eat fruits and vegetables by putting peanut butter on them.
Do whatever you can do to start your kids on the path to healthy eating, even if it means tricking them. Get yourself a juicer. Most kids love fruit juice and you can make juice that combines fruits and vegetables. The fruits overpower the vegetables, so your kids won't even know they are eating vegetables with every glass of juice they drink. If they like peanut butter and crackers, use whole grain crackers with low-fat peanut butter. They probably won't notice the difference, and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing they're eating healthy.
Using Dietary Supplements
It's hard to get all of the nutrients you need when you're on a diet. One way to counter this is to use protein supplements, which provide not only protein, but many other nutrients and vitamins as well. If you're trying to lose weight, you'll need a supplement that is high in protein but low in calories.
