Cut out the chemical filled products, use just enough to work - dont wash ur hair everyday unless you get dirty, every 2 or 3 days is better for your hair - cut out the chemical filled shampoos etc, go for something a little more natural, ur hair will thank you later...

I would agree with Nigel that Redken hair products are about the best available, but you will pay a premium for them.

As for hair loss - and I refer to the type that comes with age - there is another approach, and that's just get over it. Hair loss as you get older has been part of life since Adam was a lad. In fact baldness has never been so fashionable. We've come a long way since the middle-aged 'comb over'.
