If you live in metropolitan NZ in particular, there are a plethora of fabulous bars to choose from, with new ones sprouting up all the time. Best of all, many of these are ‘brewery bars’ serving a wide range of boutique beers, including many brewed on the premises. But all of this comes at a cost, and in Wellington and Auckland at least, you’ll be lucky to buy a pint and get much change from a ten dollar note.

On a trip to the UK earlier this month, several friends were bemoaning having to pay three quid for a pint. But that’s six bucks – and where can you get a decent pint in NZ these days for that?
