Crazy or What 3000 people turned up at Lower Hutt's Belmont Hall. Some more than 2 1/2 hours early,and only a few hundred got a look-in with the talent scouts, while the vast majority of about 3000 who joined the queue were turned away without even getting their pictures taken.Some people had flown in from overseas just to have the opportunity to audition.
Saturday's casting call saw long lines of would-be extras queuing for hours. Most were sent away after being told traffic disruption in the area had become a hazard
"I guess about a half of the people waiting from 1pm till 3pm didn't get processed and the Hobbit person who was there was saying to apply via Trade Me."
The film company wanted short men and women, big men with character faces or large biceps, women with character faces and long hair, or slim, athletic "elves".
and for what at the end of the day $18 bucks an hour,having to wear 10kg hobbit arms and big furry feet.Must just be for the prestige of working on the Movie.Who remembers seeing any extras?

...I thought it was cool that a lot of people wanted to try out though apparently they already had what they wanted in about an hour and a half.....I think people wanted to do it for a number of diverse reasons and heck why not just he mention of being in a PJ movie is epic even if you were just an extra those movies are going to be classic and stand the test of time....people think its ridiculous that so many wanted to do it I am glad those that were wanting to didn't listen to negative comments in the media etc....everyone to there own and if it makes them feel great about giving it ago then more power to you.....

I think it would be cool to be an extra on the Hobbit movie. When you are a father or grandfather you can point out to your children or grandchildren that is me on the big silver screen.

Well its not surprising at all given the fan base that been generated by the first three movies, for sure it would be great kudos to be an extra in the Hobbit movie, sadly being 5'10'' i'm rulled out as a hobit, but i do believe I have ears that could be used as Hobit stand-ins.

Did anyone end up working on the Hobbit? I would have liked to, but no time.
I had a friend who worked behind the camera, but he got bored and quit :)

Its all about being able to say you were there, regardless is you ever see yourself on screen.

I can't wait for The Hobbit, I'm trying my hardest to win tickets to the preview-it will be HUGE!

i wouldnt even have to audition as soon as they seen my hairy feet im a shoe in.
