Aussie rower sent home from the Olympics - is the pressure to win too much?

Perhaps the saddest Olympic story of the last week was the one concerning Aussie rower Josh Booth who was sent home after a drunken rampage. Having caused $2100 of damage to two shop windows, Booth was fortunate to escape any criminal charges, but you have to feel for the guy as he heads south in disgrace after years of training and preparation building up to the big event.

Could Booth's behaviour be the consequence of the huge pressure to win that seems to weigh heavily on many of the athletes, or is this just a young man who can't hold his liquor? Either way, it's a sad end to what should have been a seminal moment in his life.

I guess it's all the other people that you've let down as well in situations like that - supporters, couches, sponsors. Guess he needs to have a long hard look at his life and decides what he really wants. Self sabotage at that level is a pretty major thing. Gotta feel for the guy.

...I think there is a lot of pressure but I don't think that should be an excuse for behaving badly....an example of competing with integrity on and off the field is our own Valerie she is a great role model.....
