The Book of Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian text, originally written to help men have happy marriages. And while most are led to believe it is a compendium of carnal contortions and poetic descriptions of genitalia, in fact only one out of seven chapters is dedicated to sex. Modern day versions of these ancient teachings have found popularity due to the focus on mutual pleasure or ‘equal congress.’ So continue reading for a summary of some of the best known Kama Sutra techniques.
The man and woman, both naked, kneel facing each other. The woman opens her thighs and presents her ‘yoni’. The man draws her near him so she sits on his thighs, and guides his penis to her vagina. The man sits straight and takes his partner in his arms. This union is very intimate, it allows the couple to kiss and caress each other in a mutually comfortable position. Stimulation is limited, and penetration isn't very deep. But the intensity of the caresses makes for a very sensual experience.
In this position, the woman lies on her back with her knees bent up to her chest. The man then kneels in front of her and enters his ‘lingam’ into her. She can pull him towards her by clasping her hands behind his bum. By resting her legs by his armpits she can control how close his chest is to her. This Kama Sutra move is intended to focus on the beauty of the woman and the position she is in makes her appear like a blooming flower. This is also an excellent position for accommodating ‘high congress couples’ – where he is more largely endowed than she requires.
The man sits, keeping his chest straight. The woman sits on his lingam, and wraps her legs around him. She can undulate her pelvis, rhythmically moving it back and forth. This union is very intimate and penetration is deep. It allows a great deal of intimacy by letting the couple kiss and the man caresses his partner at length. Since stimulation is rather limited for the man, this position is recommended for those who suffer from premature ejaculation.
This position is not for the faint-hearted and might be more suited to regular yoga practitioners. The man lies on his back, the woman squats or kneels above him to be penetrated. She then uses his lingam as an axis so that she can spin around. The woman shifts her two legs to the right of her partner’s chest and starts to pivot. The woman finds herself reversed with her back to her partner. She then continues to return to the original position facing her partner. One of the few cons to this position is the potential for ‘slippage.’
