Don't leave it if you think somethings up because its just not worth it in the long run. Got diagnosed yesterday with tumor in left one and go in next week to have it out...all sorts of things float round in the head, how long is this going to affect work?( I was in the middle of a job application for a new job with more money) Lots of what if's? still haven't told my children...

Early diagnosis is crucial. My best friend recently realised that one of his testicles was permanently enlarged and felt 'hard'...to cut a long story short he got it checked within a few days, it was a cancerous tumor but it hadn't yet spread up to his 'piping', they operated to remove his testicle and he then had to have a series of chemo injections...all within a couple of months, and he is completely better now...not even any loss of hair on his head (or elsewhere) from the chemo, and the doctors say that his single testicle will work just as well as if he still had both...

As for me, I was hit by a cricket ball in my nether-regions some 6 years ago, I thought it had healed but was left with a permanently enlarged and uncomfortable left teste which seemed to get worse over time. I started to get worried and had it checked out, was referred for an ultasound...and I've been telling stories about it ever since...again, to cut a long story short, I had to pull down my pants, lie on my back with my knees up as if I was giving birth, hold my pecker out of the way, had ice cold gel squirted on my balls, and the doctor proceeded to move the ultrasound scanner around while we both somewhat awkwardly craned our heads to look up at the computer monitor with my testes shown on the screen. "Is it a boy or a girl?" I asked, trying to break the awkwardness. It was all quite awkward...and the gel was REALLY sticky and hard to wipe off afterwards....but well worth it. Ultimate diagnosis was that I had 1.5mm of extra scar tissue on my left scrotum, but no cancer or other problem. It was a BIG relief.

So boys, the moral of the story is...get checked out EARLY...you won't regret it and it is well worth it, even if you aren't sure whether anything is really wrong....and even if it means you have to be naked with cold gel smeared on your balls and another man rubbing a machine on them ;)

  • Good article, very sensitive subject!
  • "Enlargement or tenderness of the breasts"??? lol
Might want to remove that from the article - i think that is a typo. found under "Other signs of testicular cancer to keep in mind are"
  • I found a little lump between mine and totally freaked. Being 25 at the time I rushed to the doc dropped my trousers without a flinch, thankfully its not a harmful one. So before reading this article I wouldnt have known what the symptoms are for cancer because its not something I would ask nor is it publicised enough, thanks Frank for hooking me up
