Stupid Nanny State Continues

Politics with Bite!

The new cellphone ban law will prohibit the use of the cellphone as a navigation device even if mounted on the dash of your car in acradle.

More about Stupid Nanny State Continues

  • Raven says
It's about time handheld mobiles were banned while driving.
  • I agree that a hot meat pie can be as dangerous in a driver's hand as their cellphone, just not as common! I bet people bitched and whined when seatbelts became mandatory too.
  • It seems wise not to be occupying one's hands with a mobile phone when driving. Once again however the politicians haven't done their research properly and come out punishing even responsible users of modern navigation technology.
  • More counter productive poorly thought out legislation that needs an overhaul! If public submissions are allowed this proposed law could be reworked to end dangerous cell phone behaviour and allow safe smart phone usage such as GPS with audible directions.
  • I agree that no one should be texting while driving, but not while stopped at a traffic light. I don't think people are texting or calling while driving for just the fun of it. We use our cellphones nowadays for almost everything. Recently I had a $150 fine for stopping in an empty disabled parking space at 3:00 AM for less than 2 minutes with me still sitting in the car. So i could only imagine this new law just another method to collect fines. Time will tell.
  • Goody says
What else will they ban? Radios? Conversations? Looking at hot girls on the street?
  • With new phones like the palm pre, which allow multiple applications to be running at once, for the expressed purpose of such applications as turn by turn directions, this does not make sense. In the evolving smart phone market I hope that when I invest in an expensive phone I will be able to take advantage of all of its features.

I would also like to know the grounds for this ban. Is their research to support the argument that using mobile devices while driving causes more accidents? In Japan people are allowed to drive while talking on their phones and having the in car tv running. They have some of the safest roads in the world.
  • Texting should be banned, but hands free talking and GPS are fine by me.
  • i BELIEVE IT IS A GREAT IDEA. I HAVE SEVERAL TIMES SEEN EVEN THE POLICE TXTING OR TALKING ON THEIR CELLPHONES......NOT GOOD. MAYBE THE NEW LAW WILL WAKE ALOT OF US UP.
  • Laureth Le Roux says
It is a law that had to be brought in.
