There is something about the Ford Ranger which has captivated New Zealand. Whether it's the name, the specs, the design or a combination of all these things, it has held its ground as New Zealand's best selling vehicle for the last couple of years.
That doesn't mean there hasn't been a healthy level of compeition though. The Toyota Hilux, Holden Colorado, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50 have been working hard to narrow the gap.
So it'll be interesting to see how influential the Ford Ranger Raptor is when it hits New Zealand shores next year. As Driven.co.nz writer Matthew Hansen put it, "the joker card which could give their Ranger the Kiwi sales edge."
Its off road capabilities in this video are very impressive, with good control around the tight corners and plenty of grunt.
The pricing and specs of the Raptor aren't yet known. If the American F-150 Raptor is anything to go by, look out for a twin-turbo 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine with 450 horsepower.
